The model
Two readings from one quiz. Your type is where three axes meet — Affinity (do you lean writer, reader, or shipper?), Autonomy (cautious or aggressive with the tools?), and Trust (your own judgment, or backpressure from tests and review?). Combine them and you land one of twelve archetypes. Your level is separate — five bands on the AI-adoption ladder, collapsed from Steve Yegge's eight, from Assisted to Orchestrating.
How the scoring works
Every answer nudges one or more axes. Say you'd rather read code than write it and the reader axis climbs. When the questions run out, the engine adds up the nudges — whichever of writer, reader, or shipper is highest sets your affinity, and the sign of the autonomy and trust totals picks each side. It's deterministic: the same answers always produce the same type, no dice. The panel above is that exact engine, running live in your browser — drag a slider and watch the star and the verdict move.
Why nineteen questions
You don't answer the whole bank. Each run samples a smaller set — enough to pin down all three type axes and your level, with floors so no dimension is starved and caps so you never get five near-identical questions in a row. Different run, different questions, same engine.
Is it legit?
It's opinionated, not clinical — there's no lab study behind it, and it won't diagnose you. What it is, is honest and balanced: a Monte-Carlo sweep of thousands of simulated runs checks that every type is actually reachable, so none is a dead end the wiring can't produce. Take it seriously, not literally.
What your share link holds
When you share a result, the link carries just two things — your type and your level band. Not your answers, not an email. (Separately, we keep anonymous, aggregate tallies of answers, types, and levels to power the 'X% of devs' stats — counts only, never tied to you.) The whole engine ships in the page you're reading. Inspect it.
