What kind of dev? is a quiz you can take without an account. This page explains, in plain terms, what happens to your answers.
Last updated: July 15, 2026
Your answers and result
Your quiz answers are scored in your browser — the engine runs client-side, and your result is encoded into a short, opaque share token that carries only two numbers: your type and your level band. There's no name, no account, and no login anywhere in the quiz.
Email (only if you ask)
If you choose to email yourself your result, we send one branded email to the address you type, from hello@whatkindof.dev. The message is built server-side from your result token, so it can't be pointed at someone else's result. A Cloudflare Turnstile check guards the form against abuse. We never store your email address — it's used to send that one message and nothing else.
Personalized result (optional AI)
The optional personalized sections are generated by one capped call to Cloudflare Workers AI (a language model running on Cloudflare's infrastructure). Only your anonymous result is included in that call — your type, level, and the trait strengths derived from your answers — never your name or email. It's gated by a Turnstile check, capped by a daily budget, and can be switched off entirely.
Aggregate stats
To show things like "how rare is this type," a finished run adds to anonymous aggregate counters stored in a Cloudflare D1 database: a total run count, and per-type, per-level, and per-answer-choice tallies. These are counts only — they are never tied to you, and no IP address or identifier is stored with them.
Analytics
We use privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics for pageviews, and Umami for a handful of anonymous funnel events (for example, that a quiz was started, completed, or shared). No cookies are set, nothing is tied to you, and there is no cross-site tracking.
Who processes this data
The site runs on Cloudflare, which acts as our processor for hosting, sending your result email, the optional Workers AI call, Turnstile abuse protection, and Web Analytics. Umami provides the cookieless event analytics. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone.
Changes to this policy
